Nicole forced people from their homes in the Bahamas and grew into a rare November hurricane Wednesday, shutting down theme parks and airports while prompting evacuation orders that included former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club.
The National Hurricane Center estimated that at 6 p.m. ET, Nicole had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, making it a Category 1 storm, as it made landfall on Grand Bahama Island. The storm was located about 105 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida, and was moving west at 12 mph, the NHC said.
Landfall in Florida was expected shortly after midnight on Wednesday somewhere between Vero Beach and West Palm Beach. The storm was then expected to move across the peninsula and hit Florida's west coast by about 1 p.m. ET Thursday, creating more storm surge on the Gulf Coast side of the state.
