
NIA crackdown on PFI: How radical outfit planned to evade agencies

As per documents recovered by the NIA, PFI launched multiple wings to evade a ban and government agencies.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and police authorities raided multiple locations in connection with the PFI's (Popular Front of India) top leadership and office bearers. The searches were conducted across 13 states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam, in a bid to crackdown on PFI sleeper cells, illicit terror funding and alleged terror modules.
The authorities nabbed 106 people; 22 people were arrested in Kerala, 8 from Uttar Pradesh, and 9 from Assam, 5 from Andhra Pradesh, 4 from Madhya Pradesh. Understandably so, the update revived the clamour about the Centre's decision to ban the radical outfit.
PFI Chairman OMA Salam and State president CP Muhammad Basheer were taken into custody from Malappuram's Manjeri. The probe agency also arrested Delhi PFI chief Parvez Ahmed and his brother from Okhla at 3.30 am on Thursday morning.

As per documents recovered by the NIA, PFI launched multiple wings to evade a ban and measures by government agencies. PFI's organs include the Social Democratic Party of India, Campus Front of India, National Women's Front, All India Imam Council, All India Legal Council, HRDF, Social Democratic Trade Union, Rehab India Foundation.
"PFI has already launched several organisations to take forward its agenda," the source said.
