Newsom says 'don't ever confuse' him with 'defund police movement'
Fox News
California Gov. Gavin Newsom took a definitive stance against the progressive "defund the police" movement in a virtual interview with a number of California news outlets this week.
He continued: "Hell, I was the first mayor in San Francisco in history that actually met our statutory requirement of … 1,973 police officers." Newsom said he is in favor of police reform and is "proud of the state" in terms of what it has done for criminal justice reform. The governor did not respond to a request from Fox News when asked whether that meant increasing funding for police. In 2020, after George Floyd's murder, Newsom traveled across California to meet with community leaders and discuss ways to address injustices and racism, according to The Mercury News.More Related News
