New York surpasses 50,000 COVID-19 deaths

New York’s coronavirus death toll has now surpassed the 50,000 mark, new data shows.

As of Monday morning, a total of 50,017 New Yorkers had succumbed to COVID-19, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Only the state of California, which has more than double New York’s population, has recorded more deaths from the virus, at 58,949 fatalities.
