Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed his gratitude to the public and the police after the New Year celebrations went off peacefully in the city.
“Lakhs of people, including youth, gathered for New Year celebrations. The events remained peaceful, with no untoward incident reported, for the first time in the State,” Dr. Parameshwara said.
Over 11,800 police personnel across the city were on their toes to ensure law and order.
Two stray incidents of misbehaviour were reported inside pubs in Marathahalli and Bellandur police station limits and the police have taken up the cases.
A woman who had come to a pub at Kadubeesanahalli with her male friend for the celebrations alleged that a man who was in the pub touched her inappropriately. She raised objection and blamed the lack of security at the pub before approaching the police. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case against the unknown person who is absconding.
In a similar incident, another woman who visited a pub in Bellandur complained that an unidentified man misbehaved with her and forced her to drink liquor. She raised objection following which the accused fled.
Another incident was reported when a man was caught by a woman on M.G. Road and slapped for allegedly misbehaving with her while walking. The police later detained the suspect and took him to the Ashok Nagar police station. Another drunk man tried to argue with a policeman on duty and created a ruckus . He was detained and later released.
