Apple’s new 15-inch MacBook will go into mass production in mid-1H23, according to the latest leak.
Apple is rumoured to launch a new MacBook next year. According to a recent Bloomberg report, a 15-inch MacBook Air is in the works. The bigger MacBook Air will sit above the 13-inch Air M2 and follow the same design language. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the upcoming 15-inch model will launch in two different variants.
Apple’s new 15-inch MacBook will go into mass production in mid-1H23, according to Kuo. He further added that Apple might launch the 15-inch laptop in the second quarter or 2023 or later. Previously, Kuo claimed that the new 15-inch MacBook might not be branded as a MacBook Air.
Along with the launch timeline details, Kuo also revealed that the upcoming 15-inch MacBook will launch with two M2 series chipset options. One of the two models will feature the M2 chip, which we have already seen in the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2022 and the 13.6-inch MacBook Air M2. This variant will also come with a 35W dual-port adapter.
The other option will feature the M2 Pro chip, which Apple is expected to announce later this year or early next year. The more powerful variant of the 15-inch MacBook will also come with a 67W adapter, according to Kuo.
Kuo also said that he has not heard any of Apple’s plans to release a new 12-inch MacBook. Previously, Gurman claimed that Apple would launch a new 12-inch MacBook by the end of 2023 or early-2024. Currently, it is unknown if the 12-inch MacBook will be a low-end option or a smaller variant of the high-end MacBook Pro lineup, which currently comes in three different screen sizes.
A 12-inch MacBook was launched in 2015. Following criticism around the keyboard and lack of ports, the laptop never received an upgrade. Apple discontinued the 12-inch variant of the MacBook in 2019.
Apple is said to refresh the lineup later this year with new MacBook Pro machines. The company will launch 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. While not much about the M2 Pro is known, Gurman previously claimed that the M2 Max will come with 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU.
