New details reveal how Lakers are barely considering JJ Redick for coaching opening

JJ Redick will continue his day job as an ESPN color commentator during the NBA Finals, as the Lakers’ interest him for their head coach opening reportedly is even less than previously believed.
ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday night that the Lakers have only interviewed one candidate twice, Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego, whom Lakers’ brass met with twice in-person.
He added that several candidates were interviewed once, while not naming Redick, whom The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported two days prior was close to a deal to become the Lakers’ head coach.
Charania said Redick had an “extended” meeting with the franchise.
It would appear that the Lakers were using Redick as a smokescreen to hide their true intentions of bringing in UConn head coach Dan Hurley, who is scheduled to meet Los Angeles higher-ups Friday.
“In terms of Shams, that will be addressed once the season is over, I’ll just say that,” Redick said earlier this week of the situation, “I don’t mean any job — I mean Shams. We’ll wait on that one.”
