A news release was sent Thursday morning outlining the review and updates made by Education and Early Childhood Minister Bill Hogan.
“We are improving three aspects of the policy to ensure it is clear and responds to the feedback received during the consultations while reflecting the role parents play in their child’s life and education," said Hogan in the release.
Policy 713 is the sexual orientation and gender identity policy used within New Brunswick's schools.
It sets the bare minimum requirements for the province's seven school districts to create a safe, welcoming and learning environment for all 2SLGBTQIA+ students.
The revisions fall under three categories, self-identification, sports participation and universal spaces.
School staff will consult with transgender or non-binary students under 16-years-old to determine their preferred first name and pronoun(s) and that first name will be used on a consistent basis.
