Shefali Shah's role as Shamshu in Alia Bhatt's Darlings is garnering praise from all quarters. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, the actress shared that she has never been offered comedy since people feel she can only do serious roles.
Shefali Shah plays a pivotal role alongside Alia Bhatt in Darlings. She said that her role in the film is the most satisfying character played by her. Shefali plays Alia's mother, Shamshu, in the dark comedy. This is for the first time Shefali has been offered a light-hearted film and hoped she gets comedy films in the future. Speaking to IndiaToday.in, the actress spoke about Shamshu and the characters she would like to play in the future.
Talking about her role in Darlings, Shefali Shah told IndiaToday.in, "It was very satisfying to play Shamshu because my character has no filters and she has no holds. She doesn't think twice, she's fearless and she's quite a wacko, so I totally loved it. There were restraints in other characters I played in the past, of course, it's not like you go off the script, but she's far more free-spirited which is great to play because then you can just let your hair down and be you."
Could she relate to her character Shamshu? Shefali shared, "Well, I have to admit that I connect with a lot of the characters I play. I mean, obviously, if I didn't, I wouldn't pick them up, but there are certain qualities like I said there is a certain restraint in many characters. In this one, it was great fun. Also, have never done work like this. I have never been offered a comedy genre because everyone feels I can only do serious work. So it was great fun, being a part of it."Shefali also shares one takeaway from Darlings. "Violence is not the solution. But if you are pushed, pushed, pushed to a wall then probably you don't have an option but to push back," she signed off.
