Campbell, a former West Australian cricketer, was in Perth last week and was reported to be fit as a fiddle by a close friend.
Netherlands coach and former Australia international, Ryan Campbell has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Stoke after suffering a heart attack. Australian news publication 6PR revealed on Tuesday morning that Campbell had collapsed while being out in the playground with his family and was rushed to the hospital, where he fights for his life at the moment.
Campbell had recently visited New Zealand on the national team’s three ODI and one T20I tour. While Netherlands lost the ODI series 0-3, the coach had taken a short break of seven days to visit friends and family at his home in Perth. It was reported by Campbell’s close friend and journalist Gareth Parker that the former player was fit as a fiddle when he visited Perth last week.
The right handed batter-keeper represented Australia for two games debuting against New Zealand in 2002. He was a force to reckon with in the domestic circuit due to his swashbuckling capabilities. Campbell debuted in T20 cricket in 2016 in the World T20 at the age of 44, not for Australia but for Hong Kong. He retired after playing two games and was called for the Netherlands coaching job in 2017.
