Private bus accident in Valuvally injures nearly 40 passengers, driver's condition serious, investigation underway by authorities.
Nearly 40 persons were injured after a private bus went out of control and rammed a tree at Valuvally near North Paravur on Wednesday around 6 a.m. The condition of two of the injured is reportedly serious.
The bus was headed from Guruvayur to Vyttila. The driver was taken out by breaking open the driver’s cabin. Though local people tried to rescue him, they eventually required the service of the Fire and Rescue Services. The injured passengers were rushed to various hospitals.
“All 31 passengers, except a lady, who were brought to our hospital were discharged. The lady requires surgery to her leg. The driver who had suffered serious injuries, though not life-threatening, had also got himself discharged,” spokesperson of a private hospital said.
North Paravur Joint Regional Transport Office sources said that the accident might have been caused either by the rash and negligent ways of the driver or the driver could have dozed off since the trip had started from Guruvayur around 4.15 a.m.
“We don’t know whether he had enough sleep. During our initial examination, we haven’t found any mechanical issues. The bus is a 2022 model one with fitness certificate till February 8. However, we will be conducting a more detailed inspection with the help of experts,” said sources.
The North Paravur police have registered a case under the Motor Vehicle Act Section 279 (rash and negligent driving or riding on a public road) among others. The police have also taken the vehicle into custody.
