The U.S. Navy welcomed beautiful weather Saturday for the official commissioning of the new USS Mobile warship at the Port of Mobile in Alabama.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., gave a speech celebrating both the Navy and the ship, which was built by Austal USA in Mobile and christened in 2019. "Our job is to remind friends and foes alike that the U.S. Navy is the most powerful navy to ever sail the seven seas, and it must stay that way," he said, adding that "the Chinese are rapidly expanding their fleet," and the U.S. has to keep up. The Mobile is the fifth Navy ship to be named after the city and the second active ship to be built in the same place where it was commissioned, according to the Defense Department.More Related News
