Minister Kelu inaugurates 'Nerathinka -24' National Tribal Festival showcasing food, art, culture, and handicrafts from various tribal communities.
Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Backward classes O.R. Kelu will inaugurate ‘Nerathinka -24’, a week-long National Tribal Festival that begins on the Kerala institute for Research Training & Development studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) campus at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (December 24). Mayor Beena Philip will preside over the event.
The festival, held from December 24 to 30, will showcase the food, art, culture, literature, and handicrafts of tribal communities from Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
The festival includes an ethnic food festival, ‘Uchal’, an art festival, ‘Nera Bare’, a tribal literary camp, ‘Bellibane’, a tribal medicine camp, and a tribal dance festival.
The food festival showcases tribal cuisines from the Kani tribe of Thiruvananthapuram, Vettakkurumar, and Kurichya tribes of Wayanad, along with the Koli Mahadeva tribe from Maharashtra, Thoda tribe from Tamil Nadu, and Oron tribe from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. A major highlight will be the preparation of various tubers found in the Western Ghats.
The festival will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
