Name of city, town should represent its culture, says Assam CM; seeks suggestions from people

The Assam Government is mulling on changing the names of cities and towns and will launch a portal to seek suggestions on the same from the people, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government will soon launch a portal seeking suggestions to change the names of cities and towns 'which are contrary to our civilisation, culture and derogatory to any caste or community'.
He said the name of a city, town or village should represent its culture, tradition and civilisation.
"THERE’S MUCH IN A NAME. Name of a city, town or village should represent its culture, tradition & civilisation. We shall launch a portal to invite suggestions on change of names across Assam which are contrary to our civilisation, culture & derogatory to any caste or community," he tweeted.
