Nagpur college professor suspended after students allege he sought sexual favours

A professor at a private college in Nagpur has been suspended and a police case registered against him after women students accused him of demanding sexual favours to pass them.
A professor at a private college in Maharashtra’s Nagpur has been suspended and a police case registered against him for allegedly making sexual advances towards women students.
The matter came to light when students lodged a complaint against the professor at the Pachpaoli police station in Nagpur, on the basis of which a case was registered.
According to the police complaint, Professor Rakesh Gedam, head of the computer science department at Dada Ramchand Bakhru Sindhu Mahavidyalaya, allegedly demanded sexual favours from the women students in his department in exchange for good marks, and threatened to fail them if they refused. He also touched some students inappropriately.
Office bearers of the Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the Shiv Sena, raised the matter before college authorities. Following this, a number of women students came forward to lodge complaints against Gedam.
The university administration suspended Professor Gedam in the wake of the allegations against him. He is absconding. Police are on the lookout for the accused.
Sanjay Mendhe, Senior Inspector, Pachpaoali Police Station told Aaj Tak/India Today that the statement of three students who were allegedly targeted by Gedam have been recorded in the case. He also appealed to other victims to come forward.
