Naga Chaitanya spoke to IndiaToday.in exclusively about his preparation for Laal Singh Chaddha. He revealed that the writing is much different from Forrest Gump.
Naga Chaitanya is over the moon as he is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film, an adaptation of Forrest Gump, is all set to hit the theatres on August 11. Chay, as he is fondly called by fans, said that this is his dream debut. "I couldn't have asked for anything better," he said, speaking to IndiaToday.in exclusively.
Ahead of the film's grand release, Naga Chaitanya opened up about his preparation and his learning from being a part of Laal Singh Chaddha.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Q: What are your memories of watching Forrest Gump?
A: When I was in school, Forrest Gump was a cult classic. But, I couldn't understand the essence of it as I was young. I couldn't process it for what it was supposed to be. But, when I became an actor, I remember how many times I watched the film purely for Tom Hanks' performance. What a reference point the film has become for many filmmakers, be it the screenplay or the way a lot of things were done.
Q: What are the reference points you took from Forrest Gump? Did you bring in anything to your character?
A: Not really. I had watched it when I had gotten the part of Baba (Bala). I just wanted to revisit it to observe the framework of the character. But, they are two different characters and can't be compared at all. We have taken the framework of Forrest Gump, but the writing, nuances and the purpose of my character are poles apart from the original.
