
Mumbai: Tigers, penguins main attraction on Day 1 of zoo reopening

On Day 1 of the reopening of the Veermata Jijamata Bhosale Udyan, better known as Byculla Zoo in Mumbai, two Royal Bengal tigers and penguins became the main attraction.
The Mumbai civic authorities decided to reopen the Veermata Jijamata Bhosale Udyan, better known as Byculla Zoo, on Monday, after a hiatus of 7 months due to the second wave of Covid-19 infections.
The opening day saw a total of 1621 animal enthusiasts and visitors mark their presence at the famous landmark. The main attractions on the first day were the two Royal Bengal tigers, namely Shakti and Karishma, followed by the Humboldt penguin chicks, one male named Oreo and the other of unspecified gender.
