Mumbai police restricts assembly of five or more people from Jan 9-23 due to potential breach of peace.
Mumbai police has issued orders imposing a restriction on the assembly of five or more people from January 9 to 23. The order would come into effect from 12 a.m. on January 9 and end at the same time on January 23, Mumbai police said in an official statement.
While police officials have said that it is a routine procedure, and have denied any specific intelligence inputs, the order mentions that the prohibitory restrictions are in view of the likelihood of “a breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity” in Mumbai.
Under this order, the assembly of five or more people, including procession of any persons, as well as the use of loudspeakers, amplifiers, musical bands and the bursting of crackers is prohibited. The order exempts assemblies for marriages, funerals, in cooperative societies, at social associations and in companies, as well as those undertaken for government activities.
