The Mumbai police has filed a 904-page chargesheet against Pravin Darekar in the bank scam case.
The MRA Marg police station in Mumbai has filed a 904-page chargesheet against Pravin Darekar, the leader of opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Darekar, who is a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from the BJP, and two other accused - Andheri East resident Shrikant Kadam and Jogeshwari East resident Pravin Margaj, have been chargesheeted by Mumbai police. The chargesheet was filed before the 38th Magistrate court at Ballard Pier. The chargesheet has 29 statements that the Mumbai police has recorded to prove its case against Darekar. The agency had recorded statements from labourers, bank officials and even a gym instructor.Darekar and the other two accused were present in court when his lawyer Akhilesh Chaubey explained that the MLC had been protected from arrest by an order of the Bombay High Court in April. Chaubey said that Darekar had cooperated with the investigators during this time.Considering these submissions, the court formally placed Darekar under arrest and immediately released him on furnishing bail bond of Rs 35,000.
The entire case against Darekar revolves around the issue of the MLC claiming that he works as a labourer and thus heads a cooperative of labourers which led him to be a functionary at the Mumbai Cooperative Bank.
On the other hand, Darekar is accused of forging documents to contest polls of the Mumbai District Co-operative Society in the labour quota. Mumbai police had pointed out that Darekar had filed his nomination papers for MLC post in which he had declared Rs 2.13 crore worth of immovable property, out of which Rs 91,02,000 immovable property was in his own name. This, according to Mumbai police, cannot be a labourer's asset.
