The Mumbai police has added charges of rape and criminal intimidation against share broker Jignesh Mehta, who was booked for sexual assault on a struggling model and actress at a Western Mumbai hotel.
The alleged incident took place on August 5 when Jignesh Mehta had called the victim to a Western Mumbai hotel promising her to get a role in Bollywood films.
The MIDC police had booked the accused Mehta for molestation and threatening, but when the victim stated that a complete part of her statement wasn't taken on record, police then on Wednesday added sections of rape under section 376 of IPC and criminal intimidation under section 506(2) against Mehta.
Earlier, after being arrested on August 6, Mehta managed to get bail on the same day. The victim then planned to approach court against Mehta. She also stated that the police had not taken her complete statement on record.
Mehta had told the victim that he knew many Bollywood producers and would get her work and asked her to join him for dinner in the hotel room on Friday, August 5 evening.
According to police officials from the MIDC police station, Mehta then tried to sexually assault the victim and started trying to pull her clothes off and touched her inappropriately while his friend was also present. The victim resisted and started screaming for help. Hearing her screams, the hotel staff ran to her rescue and saved her.
Hotel staffers then caught Mehta, who was taken and handed over to the MIDC police station in Andheri. He was produced in court but managed to get bail on the same day and was released.
