India Today
Out on bail, a 24-year-old thief was arrested again by Mumbai Police after he stole a phone in Marine Drive. The accused has a record of thievery, robbery and trespassing.
The Mumbai Police arrested a 24-year-old man, who was out on bail, on charges of mobile phone theft. The accused, Ashraf Haider Khan, was previously arrested for committing the same crime at the South Mumbai promenade.
Khan, a Nagpada resident, has been remanded to police custody after a 30-year-old approached the police following the theft of her phone. A police official said, “At the time, she was sitting and chatting with a friend and had kept her phone next to her. Minutes later, she realised it was missing and approached the police.”
He added, “The accused is addicted to drugs and has stolen phones from Marine Drive previously too. We had prior information that he would visit the Churchgate railway station area and so we laid a trap to apprehend him.”
The stolen phone worth Rs 29,000 was recovered and Khan has been booked under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He has previous charges of theft, robbery and trespassing in the city.
