A 20-year-old man, who was arrested and spent seven months in jail on charges of allegedly impregnating a minor girl, has been granted bail by a special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Mumbai after a DNA report showed he was not the father of the child. According to the prosecution, the case was such that a 13-year-old girl was found to be seven months pregnant by her family in Mumbai. The girl had confided to her mother that the accused had physical relations with her under the promise of marriage from December 2019 to April 2020. The accused was immediately arrested after registration of FIR on August 20, 2020. The accused while seeking bail pleaded that he was innocent and had been falsely implicated. He had argued that there is delay of eight months in lodging the FIR against him. He alleged that the girl had been pregnant and this fact was disclosed to the mother a month before the FIR was lodged in August 2020. He alleged that the minor's mother had demanded Rs 10 lakhs for keeping things quiet. The accused alleged that he had demanded a DNA test, but she refused and later on, asked for Rs 30,000 to abort the child.More Related News
