Karnataka minister J C Madhuswamy announced the state cabinet’s decision to rechristen the Mumbai-Karnataka region as 'Kittur Karnataka'.
The Karnataka government decided to rename the Mumbai-Karnataka region comprising seven districts as 'Kittur Karnataka'. The announcement comes a week after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Mumbai-Karnataka region will be renamed as there is no point in retaining the old name when border disputes often emerge.
Making the announcement, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said, "The Cabinet has decided to rechristen the Mumbai-Karnataka region consisting of Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Gadag and Haveri districts as Kittur Karnataka."
