Mumbai: Girl missing for 9 years found; kidnapper, wife arrested

A minor girl, who had gone missing from near her school nine years ago, was reunited with her family in Mumbai.
A girl who had gone missing when she was seven, was traced and reunited with her family after nine years by the Mumbai Police. The police have arrested the accused, Harry D’Souza, who allegedly kidnapped her because he had no child, and later forced her into working when he had a daughter.
According to the police, the girl, Pooja, used to stay with her parents in Andheri. The police said that on January 22, 2013, Pooja went missing after she left school to return home. When she did not return, her parents approached the police and filed a missing complaint in the DN Nagar police station.
Pooja told the police that Joseph D'Souza and his wife Soni used to beat her and made her work as a domestic help at a place. The police found the girl with the help of an alert woman domestic help.
"Pooja once told the woman that she was being harassed by her family members, who had kidnapped her years ago. The woman then searched on the internet to see if there was any news report about her missing case had appeared anywhere. During the search, she came across the articles about Pooja, following which she informed the police," the police official said.
Police then made inquiries with the girl and found she was the same girl who had gone missing years ago.
DN Nagar police has registered an FIR against D'Souza and his wife Soni under various sections.
