Mumbai: Congress questions Rs 15 cr expenditure on upkeep of 7 penguins at Byculla zoo

A controversy has erupted over high-cost maintenance of a penguin enclosure at Byculla Zoo in Mumbai. The Congress has questioned a tender of Rs 15.26 crore issued for the upkeep of seven penguins for the next three years.  

A controversy has erupted over high-cost maintenance of a penguin enclosure at Byculla Zoo in Mumbai. The Congress has questioned a tender of Rs 15.26 crore issued for the upkeep of seven penguins at the zoo for the next three years. The current contract, which will end this month, was awarded at a cost of Rs 11.5 crore in September 2018. According to zoo authorities, a five to ten per cent increase in costs has been registered due to a rise in prices for necessities such as food.
