The residents told minister Aaditya Thackeray that the sprinkler system in the building was weak.
A 30- year old man died after a high-rise residential building Avighna Park on Mumbai's Curry Road in Mumbai's Lalbaug area caught fire on Friday, October 22. Residents of the building said that the firefighting system didn't work when the fire broke out on the 19th floor of the building.
Minister Aditya Thackeray and BMC Commissioner I S Chahal, who visited the building, assured that an inquiry would be carried out based on the statements of the residents. "I have been told that the sprinkler system in the building was weak. All new buildings should have firefighting systems in place. The person who died was a watchman at the building. He had gone to the 19th floor to save the residents," said Thackeray.
