Multiple collisions Thursday with police urging drivers to respect snowplows

Police in and around the London, Ont. area urged drivers to adopt a winter driving mindset as they responded to numerous collisions amid heavy snowfall Thursday morning.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 402 were closed during the rush hour as the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a transport vehicle crash at Longwoods Road in Middlesex Centre. Drivers were being asked to avoid the area as multiple vehicles had slipped off the road.
Meantime, Elgin County OPP responded to collisions in their own jurisdiction, with no injuries reported.
The Middlesex-London region saw up to 2 centimetres of snowfall since early morning. Both OPP and local police are reminding drivers to be considerate of snowplow drivers working to clear the roads.
"Snowplow drivers work hard to ensure London Ontario roads remain safe for travel, even in the toughest weather conditions" London Police said in a social media post on the platform X. "Remember, when you see a snowplow with tits flashing blue lights, slow down and be patient."
Drivers are advised to never pass a working snowplow, police said, as it puts them and others at risk.
OPP West Region shared a similar message on their X account.
"The best place to be is behind the plow and not trying to pass it," OPP posted.
Environment Canada was forecasting that the snow would end Thursday afternoon, followed by cloudy conditions with a 40 per cent chance of flurries.
Periods of snow are set to begin again overnight, going into Friday afternoon.
