Residents protest eviction in Mullai Nagar, demand re-classification of land, file petitions in Madurai High Court against forced removal.
Residents of Mullai Nagar and nearby areas staged a demonstration near Madurai Collectorate on Wednesday against their eviction from the area. They said that they had settled down in these areas over a couple of decades back. They could not be forcefully evicted without providing an alternative place to reside, they said.
The residents said that the land should be re-classified so that they can continue to reside in the same area. The police officials had denied permission for staging the protest. The residents had filed petitions before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and the same were pending. The residents have been continuously staging protests against the eviction.

A two‑day MSME Connect 2025 — Vendor Development Programme‑cum‑Industrial Exhibition opened at MADITSSIA Hall here on Thursday, with officials calling for stronger support to micro, small and medium enterprises and wider use of the Government e‑Marketplace (GeM) portal to tap public procurement opportunities.
