Mulayam Singh Yadav's bastion Mainpuri to be renamed? Zila Panchayat passes resolution

A month after winning the Zila Panchayat election in Mainpuri, the BJP has decided to rename the district as Mayan Nagar. Mainpuri was a stronghold of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The BJP-led Mainpuri Zila Panchayat in Uttar Pradesh has passed a resolution proposing to rename the district as Mayan Nagar. Last month, BJP's Archana Bhadauria won the Zila Panchayat (district council) election in Mainpuri, ending the decades-long rule of the Samajwadi Party in the area. Mainpuri was a stronghold of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, who won five elections from the constituency.
