
Mukhtar Ansari booked under Gangster Act, taken from Banda jail to Lucknow for court hearing

After don-politician Mukhtar Ansari was booked under the Gangster Act on Sunday, he was shifted from UP's Banda jail to Lucknow for a court hearing on Monday morning.
The Uttar Pradesh police registered a case under the Gangster Act against jailed don-politician Mukhtar Ansari on Sunday. On Monday morning, he was taken out of Banda jail and shifted to Lucknow in an ambulance for a court hearing.
The convoy left with heavy security arrangements. However, on the way, a police vehicle that was part of the convoy broke down and a mechanic had to be called to resolve the problem.
The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case under the Gangster Act against former BSP MLA Mukhtar Ansari and twelve of his associates.
The case pertains to the alleged use of fake documents to register an ambulance that was used to ferry Mukhtar Ansari from Ropar jail to a court in Mohali. The police began its inquiry in March 2021.
Mukhtar Ansari has more than 50 criminal cases against him in Uttar Pradesh and other states.
When preparations were being made to bring Mukhtar Ansari to Lucknow on Sunday, his lawyer Qazu Shabiur Rahman wrote a letter to the jail superintendent in Banda requesting that his client not be produced in court on account of ill health.
However, he has been shifted to Lucknow nonetheless. A medical check-up was done at Banda jail late on Sunday night.
