MP: Electricity department employee electrocuted while working, angry mob attacks officials

Villagers in MP’s Morena attacked Electricity Department officials after an outsourced employee was electrocuted while working and the two officials who had accompanied him fled the scene.
Villagers in Morena, Madhya Pradesh beat up officials of the electricity department after an outsourced employee got electrocuted while working. The other two employees who had accompanied him fled the scene as soon as the mishap occurred. Angry villagers blocked roads and demanded the electricity department to take responsibility for the accident.
The incident took place after a team of two Electricity Department officials along with an outsourced employee was sent to repair an electric pole in the village. The employee, Jaichand Singh, had climbed the electric pole to repair it when electricity was suddenly restored and he got electrocuted. The two officials who had accompanied him, Lineman Puran Chand Baghel and Assistant Lineman Hira Singh, escaped from the spot.
When the villagers learnt about the accident, they gathered together and demanded the electricity officials take responsibility. After their demands were not met, they blocked roads in protest. Finally, when the electricity department officials came to collect the body of the deceased, the villagers attacked them. The officials were beaten up in front of the police force.
On hearing about the uproar in the village, Ravindra Singh, MLA Diwani, assured the family of the deceased a job in the electricity department as well as an Anganwadi. He also announced a compensation of Rs 9 lakhs, which finally quelled the mob.
