Morning traffic stop leads to impaired driving charges for unlicensed driver

Provincial police in Hearst, Ont., stopped an unlicensed northwestern Ontario driver for a morning traffic infraction.
Provincial police in Hearst, Ont., stopped a northwestern Ontario driver on Thursday morning for a traffic infraction.
The stop was performed by members of James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on George Street at about 11 a.m. on Oct. 10, according to the OPP news release.
“Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming an alcoholic beverage,” said police.
“The driver was arrested and transported to the Hearst detachment for further testing.”
As a result of the incident and subsequent police investigation, the 20-year-old male driver from Greenstone was charged with failing to yield to traffic, driving without a licence, driving with an open container of liquor and two impaired driving offences.
In addition to the charges, the accused was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner’s expense.
