More freezing rain on the way, Environment Canada warns
CBC
Environment Canada is warning Londoners of freezing rain and strong winds starting Monday afternoon and going into the night.
The weather agency is predicting up to 5 millimetres of ice accumulation. High southeast winds will gust up to 70 kilometres per hour.
This week's winter weather begins with snow or ice pellets starting early in the day before transitioning to freezing rain. By midnight temperatures will rise above zero, putting an end to the freezing rain, but another brief period of freezing rain or drizzle is possible early Tuesday morning.
Surfaces such as highways, road, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery, Environment Canada said in a statement. Ice buildup may cause tree branches to break and utility outages may occur.
The warning is in effect for the London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County areas.
Last week, a winter storm led to school closures and cancellations of flights and bus routes.
It also downed 19 hydro poles on the eastern edge of St. Thomas.
