Monsoon fury: Cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, 2 killed in J&K, heavy rain alert in eastern states

Monsoon mayhem continues to wreak havoc in parts of the country. A cloudburst occured in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand on Saturday, while the IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for Jharkhand and flood-hit Odisha.
A cloudburst occurred in a village in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand in the wee hours of Saturday amid torrential rainfall in the area. The State Disaster Response Force or SDRF team rushed to the spot after locals in Sarkhet village reported the cloudburst at 2:45 am.
SDRF said all stranded villagers were rescued while some took shelter in a nearby resort.

Elsewhere in the country, parts of Odisha continued to reel under terrible floods, with the situation still grim following heavy rain due to low pressure and subsequent depression.
The IMD has forecast fairly widespread light or moderate showers with thunderstorms over Uttarakhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 19-20, and Himachal Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh over the weekend.
