Monitoring Officer reviews cyclone loss documentation in Krishnagiri

District Monitoring Officer Shilpa Prabhakar Satish inspected the crop loss in the Fengal cyclone-affected areas here in Uthangarai and reviewed the documented crop loss of farmers here on Tuesday.
The monitoring officer inspected a 75-cent farmland belonging to Chinnathambi in Vannampalli village in Karapattu panchayat, which was affected by the cyclone. The farmer had lost tomatoes, paddy and flowers that were cropped before the cyclone. Ms. Prabhakar also inspected the fields of two other farmers.
Later, Ms. Shilpa Prabhakar held a review meeting at the Uthangarai panchayat union building with officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, as well as consultations with the tahsildars of Bargur, Uthangarai, Pochampalli and Krishnagiri blocks on field data.
The Department of Agriculture had documented crop loss suffered by 6,381 farmers and the Department of Horticulture had documented crop loss of 1,686 farmers. A total of 8,067 farmers had suffered losses in crops spanning paddy, lentils, vegetables and fruits, groundnuts, cotton, sugarcane, plantain, and millet crops such as ragi.
Ms. Shilpa Prabhakar reviewed the documentation and instructed officials to send photographs of damages to wells, ponds, and water bodies along with a proposal to the government.
According to the monitoring officer, Fengal cyclone relief had entailed the distribution of ₹49.21 lakh towards damages to 497 thatched roofed huts; tiled-roof houses, and cowsheds. Also, flood relief was distributed to livestock casualties amounting to ₹10.23 lakh.
