Moderna said that Pfizer and BioNTech infringed on its patents in developing their Covid vaccine shots.
Moderna has sued its rival vaccine makers Pfizer and BioNTech for copying its technology in developing Covid vaccine shots. Moderna on Friday said that both Pfizer and BioNTech infringed on patents filed between 2010 and 2016 that covered its mRNA technology.
"Moderna believes that Pfizer and BioNTech's Covid-19 vaccine Comirnaty infringes patents Moderna filed between 2010 and 2016 covering Moderna's foundational mRNA technology," the company said in a statement to AFP.
mRNA is the genetic script that carries DNA instructions to each cell’s protein-making machinery. The mRNA technology has been used in the production of coronavirus vaccines across the world.
