Days after heavy rain and thunderstorms left city roads inundated, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has decided to conduct drill or mock flooding in 10 underpasses of the city this week to check readiness for annual monsoon flash floods.
As part of the mock drill, the underpasses will be flooded to the extent they do in the rain, following which pumping machinery will be deployed and tested.
Carried out with the help of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) & DLF, the mock drill will help the officials to gauge the on-ground situation and take necessary measures accordingly to prevent waterlogging in the underpasses.
Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and other officials on Friday discussed an action plan for the upcoming monsoons. Measures like cleaning & connectivity of city drains, sewage pipes, creeks, mock drills of underpasses, installation of pump sets were outlined as part of the city's monsoon preparedness drive.
