MLA moots “Sri Krishna Corridor” for the comprehensive development of Udupi city

Udupi MLA plans "Sri Krishna Corridor" to decongest city, enhance visitor experience, and improve infrastructure with ₹350 crore funding.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna on Wednesday, January 8, said he has plans to get “Sri Krishna Corridor” done on the lines of similar corridors executed in the country, to decongest the temple town, streamline vehicular movement and enhance the experience of visitors to the City.
He was interacting with media persons at a “Meet the Press” programme organised by Udupi District Working Journalists Association at the Patrika Bhavana in Udupi. The Corridor, Mr. Suvrna said would ensure the comprehensive development of the city with modern infrastructure keeping in mind the requirements for the next 25 years.
The project might require about ₹350 crore funding, he said adding a detailed project report would be prepared by the district administration and sent to the Union government for execution. The Corridor project, Mr. Suvarna said, would ensure comprehensive development of the Sri Krishna Mutt premises.
The Corridor would also involve construction of ring roads and flyovers to decongest the City roads from passing-through traffic, the MLA said. A flyover from Karavali Junction on Kochi-Panvel National Highway 66 till Kadiyali on Malpe-Tirthahalli NH 169A needs to be constructed to divert the through traffic that need to switch between highways, he said.
Regarding the crumbling underground drainage infrastructure in the City, Mr. Suvarna said the system needs a thorough overhaul to systematically treat the sewage and its discharge without affecting downstream areas, including Malpe and surrounding areas. The project might require expenditure of about ₹800 crore, he said adding the City MunicipalCouncil would get a DPR prepared for the same.
Besides developing the Beedinagudde open air theatre, a full-fledged stadium would be built at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore on the one acre adjacent land, he said.
