The Tamil Nadu chief minister put forward his demands while sanctioning funds for the construction of the twin towers for trial courts.
Chief Minister M K Stalin pressed his demand for a regional bench of the Supreme Court and allow Tamil, the official language of the state, in the Madras High Court at an event where the Tamil Nadu government sanctioned funds for the construction of the twin towers for trial courts.
Supreme Court Judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandara and several other judges marked their presence at the event.
The state government sanctioned Rs 315 crore for the construction of the twin towers for the trial courts and another Rs 23 crore for the renovation of Madras Law College building.
While speaking at the event, Stalin urged the Supreme Court to allow Tamil as the official language in courts.
“I urge that a regional bench of Supreme Court be established in Chennai. Secondly, for the convenience of people who approach court and try to understand the arguments, I urge that Tamil be made the official language," said the Chief Minister.
"Thirdly, the appointment of judges should be in such a way that all social communities of people are represented. I believe my requests will be considered,” said Stalin.
