An assistant jailer’s home inside the jailers’ quarters in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore was set ablaze by two miscreants on Sunday morning. The jailer’s wife, Bavya, with some help from the neighbours, doused the fire. However, the fire gutted the kitchen.
The house of an assistant jailer was set ablaze in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore in the wee hours of Sunday, August 28. The family miraculously escaped the attack. The miscreants used petrol to set fire to the home of Manikandan, an assistant jailer, inside the jailers’ quarters.
In the wee hours of Sunday, Manikandan’s wife woke up from sleep due to the smell of petrol. Manikandan had left for his hometown, leaving his wife and two children at home.
Upon waking up, she was shocked to notice two men pouring fuel through the kitchen window. As Manikandan’s wife began to cry for help, the two perpetrators escaped the place after lighting the fuel.
Manikandan’s wife, Bavya, and her children doused the fire along with some help from the neighbours. However, the fire had gutted the kitchen.
According to the initial investigation, the attack was allegedly planned after Manikandan’s team had seized cellphones and other banned items from inmates of Cuddalore prison. A recently jailed history-sheeter from Ennore, identified as Dhanasekhar, was also raided.
Police found two more bottles of petrol left behind by the perpetrators. Further investigations are underway.
