Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met over 150 intellectuals and leaders of the Muslim community on Sunday, who agreed on the need to curb the population growth in some parts of the state as it poses a threat to development.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday held a meeting with over 150 intellectuals and personalities from various diverse fields of the religious minority community and said they have all agreed on the need to curb the population growth in some parts of the state as it is a threat to development. Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Sarma said, "We have discussed various issues confronting the religious minorities of Assam, more particularly the indigenous Assamese minority community. They have a distinct identity, a rich traditional cultural heritage. All present at the meeting agreed that the population explosion in some parts of Assam poses a threat to the development of the state. If Assam wants to become one of the top five states in India, then we have to manage our population explosion. This was agreed by all,” Sarma said.More Related News
