While the impact of the second wave of the pandemic has been severe in the State, the situation in Gadag district is under control and people should cooperate with the district administration by adhering to COVID-19 protocol, Minister for Information and Public Relations and district in-charge for Gadag C.C. Patil has said. He was speaking to presspersons after holding a review meeting on the pandemic with elected representatives and officials in Gadag on Monday. Mr. Patil said that as per a report from experts, there is a likelihood of an increase in the rate of infection till May 15 and it is crucial that citizens took all precautions and avoided coming out of their houses.More than 2.6 lakh village and ward volunteers in Andhra Pradesh, once celebrated as the government’s grassroots champions for their crucial role in implementing welfare schemes, are now in a dilemma after learning that their tenure has not been renewed after August 2023 even though they have been paid honoraria till June 2024. Disowned by both YSRCP, which was in power when they were appointed, and the current ruling TDP, which made a poll promise to double their pay, these former volunteers are ruing the day they signed up for the role which they don’t know if even still exists
