Oslo: Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi affirmed that the effectiveness of mediation is evident in its ability to reduce tensions, prevent escalations, and build lasting peace.
In his opening speech at the Oslo Forum, which kicked off today in Oslo, Norway, His Excellency said that mediation embodies the principles of diplomacy and international cooperation by prioritizing communication and compromise, making it an indispensable tool for resolving disputes peacefully.
The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway HE Jonas Gahr Store attended the session, as well as the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia HE Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi.
HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs pointed out that an effective mediator possesses the diplomatic skills, strategic vision, and commitment to the required neutrality, adding that at the forefront of the characteristics of an effective mediator is a deep understanding of international relations, cultural differences, and complex dynamics within countries as well as between them and their neighbors.
What distinguishes an international mediator is their ability to propose new solutions and mediate in order to reach settlements that address the core issues of each party while preserving the broader interests of peace and stability, he added.
