A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men after they attacked her husband at the Repalle railway station in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district on Saturday night.
Police said the woman along with her husband and three children arrived in Guntur district from Venkatadripuram village in Prakasam district two days ago to find masonry work. They had taken the Guntur-Repalle passenger train and got down at Repalle railway station late in the night on Saturday. They decided to spend the night on the platform.
Around 1 am, when the family was sleeping, three unknown persons approached them. They woke up the husband, pulled him aside and beat him. Hearing the commotion, the woman woke up and intervened.
Two of the assailants grabbed hold of the woman, dragged her behind a clump of bushes at the end of the platform, and assaulted her. The husband rushed to the Repalle police station and informed them about the incident. But by the time the police arrived at the scene, the attackers had fled.
The woman has alleged that the two men gang-raped her. She was shifted to a hospital where her medical examination was conducted. She is currently recuperating.
A case has been registered at Repalle police station and search parties have been constituted to look for the accused. Checkpoints have been set up on all routes out of Repalle and vehicles are been checked.
