MI vs CSK: MS Dhoni wins thriller for Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians winless after 7 matches

IPL 2022, MI vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings secured their second victory of IPL 2022 while Mumbai Indians remained winless after seven matches this season. It was another forgettable night for MI who lost Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the first over of the match and never recovered from the setbacks.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday to secure their second win of IPL 2022. Mumbai Indians, the most successful side in IPL history, continued their horror run this season - they have now lost all their seven matches so far.

MS Dhoni turned back the clock and remained unbeaten on 28 to lead CSK to a thrilling victory. CSK needed 17 off the final over and Dhoni smashed one six and two fours off Jaydev Unadkat as MI crashed to another defeat.

There were important contributions from Ambati Rayudu who top-scored with 40 and Robin Uthappa who smashed a quick 30, but it was MS Dhoni's innings at the end which helped CSK win off the final ball of the match.

After CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and decided to bowl, Mukesh Choudhary removed Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for ducks in the first over of the innings. MI could never recover from the twin jolts and despite a cameo from Suryakumar Yadav and a gutsy fifty from Tilak Varma, the five-time champions could only manage 155 for 7 in a match they desperately needed to win to get their first points of the season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Daniel Sams as Mumbai Indians made a good start to their defence of a middling total. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2021, has had a poor campaign so far this year. Apart from one half-century against Gujarat Titans, Gaikwad has struggled badly.
