Mexico issued triple the number of visas in April as in first three months of the year compared to typical practices, indicating a likely wave of migrants.
While 30,000 people is only a small fraction of what border officials have had to deal with each month under President Biden's administration, the spike in visas could paint a picture of just how large a migrant wave is headed to the U.S. with the end of Title 42 on Thursday. "We do not know if this is solely related to Title 42, but it is evident there are many more migrants here than normal," Miguel Barrera, a field coordinator at the International Rescue Committee near Mexico's southern border, told the New York Times.
