Meteor shower 'Al-Dibiyat' to peak Wednesday on Qatar sky
Gulf Times
The Qatari Calendar House announced that Qatar residents will be able to witness the second meteor shower (Al-Dibiyat) during December. Astronomer at the Qatari Calendar House Dr. Bashir Marzouk stated that the meteor shower will reach its peak Wednesday, the 18th of Jumada Al-Ula 1443 AH, corresponding to December 22, and will extend until the dawn of Thursday, December 23, noting that these meteors are active annually during the period between 17 and 26 December of each year, but they reach their peak around the 22nd of December. What distinguishes the monitoring of meteor showers is that monitoring them only needs a place far from environmental and light pollution, so the residents Qatar will be able to monitor and see the meteor shower with the naked eye and without the need for astronomical devices or telescopes, as they can see and monitor it from Wednesday evening, until the dawn Thursday dawn, by looking towards the northern horizon. Dr. Bashir Marzouk pointed out that the meteors are callled Al-Dibiyat because they appear to the observer from the surface of the Earth as falling near the constellation of the Minor Dipper to the north. Modern digital cameras can be used to obtain images of meteor showers, taking into account the increase in exposure time during shooting to obtain distinctive images of them.
