A "messy mix" of winter weather is on its way to Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County on Monday, Environment Canada warns.
Snow or ice pellets are expected Monday afternoon but will turn to freezing rain or drizzle Monday night, which could impact the evening commute.
"A few millimetres of ice accretion is possible in some areas by Tuesday morning," the special weather statement says. "Untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery."
Strong winds up to 70 km/h are also expected in the area, the special weather statement says. This could lead to local power outages.
The temperatures will be mild through the first part of the week. The Environment Canada forecast is calling for a high of –1 C on Monday, although it will feel like –17 C in the morning because of the wind and –9 C in the afternoon.
Tuesday the forecast calls for a cloudy day with a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain with a high of 4 C.
Wednesday is similar, with clouds and a 60 per cent chance of flurries or rain in the forecast and a high of 5 C.
