A total of fourteen villages have been merged with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, a demand pending for a long time. Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde said that people will now get access to basic amenities with this inclusion.
Maharashtra minister for Urban Development and PWD, Eknath Shinde, on Thursday said that fourteen villages have been included in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The villages that have been included are Dahisar, Mokashi, Walivali, Pimpri, Nighu, Navali, Vaklan, Yamali, Narivali, Vele, Nagaon, Bhandali, Uttarshiv and Goteghar.
The minister said, "This demand was pending for a long time and the development of people living there was stalled for many years. But now they will be getting basic facilities like health, sanitation, water and roads." He also said that central agencies are used for political benefits, which is not right.
The villagers had been demanding to move out of the grampanchayat administration owing to the number of unchecked construction activities and inferior quality of basic amenities, which made them apprehensive. When the corporation was constituted , these villages were merged with NMMC in December 1991 along with 29 other villages. But later on, after the villagers revolted, in 2007, they were separated from the corporation.
