Mekedatu project: Karnataka rubbishes resolution passed by Tamil Nadu
India Today
Karnataka government has rubbished the resolution passed by Tamil Nadu condemning the decision of Karnataka to proceed with the Mekedatu project. The government said it is committed to implement the project.
The Karnataka government has rubbished the resolution passed unanimously in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and said it is bound to implement the Mekedatu project. Mekedatu multi-purpose (drinking and power) project involves building a balancing reservoir to store 67 TMC of water near Kanakapura in Karnataka's Ramanagara district.
In a tweet, Water Resource Minister Govind Karjol said, "The resolution passed in Tamil Nadu Assembly has no value. Karnataka will implement the Mekedatu project. The government will take all steps for the same."

Recently, an all-party meeting was called by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on inter-state water issues and Mekedatu was discussed in the meeting. All parties agreed that Mekedatu is necessary for Karnataka and especially to solve the drinking water problem of Bengaluru.
Minister Karjol is expected to head to Delhi to push the Cauvery Water Management Authority to approve the Mekedatu project. The Karnataka government is also contemplating taking a delegation of all party members to meet Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Shekhawat.
The project is aimed at ensuring drinking water for Bengaluru and neighbouring areas (4.75 TMC).
On Monday, a resolution was passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, providing support to all decisions taken to stop the Karnataka government and protect the interests of Tamil Nadu farmers.
